Whether you're creating colourful landscapes, flowers, birds, animal portraits or abstract designs, these versatile felt sheets provide a practical foundation for your 2D needle felting and wool painting projects.

Available in six different felt varieties, with a choice of colours, thicknesses and textures to suit different creative styles.

All six felt varieties have been personally tested by Felting 4 Fun and found suitable for needle felting and 2D wool painting.

Choose Your Felt Base

Black Felt – Approx. 1 mm

A flexible black felt base that provides a striking background for colourful wool painting designs. Particularly effective for bright flowers, birds and artwork with bold colour contrasts.

Fibre composition: Unconfirmed.

White Felt – Approx. 1 mm

A lightweight, flexible white felt suitable for needle-felted pictures and smaller wool painting projects. Its neutral colour makes it easy to create a wide range of designs.

Natural White Wool Blend Felt – Approx. 2 mm

A versatile wool-blend backing fabric suitable for landscapes, flowers, animal portraits and other wool painting designs.

Light Grey Wool Blend Felt – Approx. 3 mm

A thicker, firmer felt that provides a supportive base for needle felting. Its light grey colour is particularly suitable for landscapes, wildlife and designs featuring subtle colour variations.

Also suitable for projects incorporating slightly raised or textured needle-felted details.

Natural White Felt – Approx. 2.3 mm

A soft, natural white felt with a pleasant texture, providing a neutral background for a variety of wool painting projects.

Natural White Felt – Approx. 3 mm

A thicker natural white felt suitable for wool painting, needle-felted pictures and decorative artwork.

Helpful Tips

  • Use the full sheet for larger artwork or cut it into smaller pieces to suit your project.

  • Felt sheets can be left partly exposed as the background or covered with coloured wool fibres.

  • Always work over a suitable needle felting foam pad or mat.

  • Thinner felt sheets may require a firm backing board when framing finished artwork.

  • Felt thicknesses are approximate. Texture, density and firmness may vary between felt types.

  • Actual colours may vary slightly depending on your screen settings.
